It is a limiting approximation to the binomial distribution, when p, the probability of success is very small but n, the number of trials is so large that the product np = m is of a moderate size;

Q2.

N=20
P=Head =1/2=0.5
Q=1-p =1-0.5=0.5
Mean =np=20*0.5=10
Variance =npq=(20*0.5*0.5)=5

Solution 1:
The Poisson distribution can be used as a limiting case for the binomial distribution in the following situation:
It is a limiting approximation to the binomial distribution, when p, the probability of success is very small but n, the number of trials is so large that the product np = m is of a moderate size.

Q#1:The Poisson distribution is a limiting case of the binomial distribution which arises when the number of trials n increases indefinitely whilst the product μ = np, which is the expected value of the number of successes from the trials, remains constant.
